PNP-AC
Find your Pediatric NP — Acute Care preceptor.
Pediatric Acute Care NP clinical rotations in children's hospitals, PICU, pediatric ED, and pediatric subspecialty practices. These are high-acuity, hospital-based placements that follow the rounding schedules of inpatient pediatric teams — typical rotations run 200–500 hours, often in 10–12 hour shifts. A high-demand, lower-supply specialty nationally, so request 8+ weeks ahead for best results.

Who this is for
PNP-AC students completing required acute care pediatric clinical hours in inpatient, ED, or pediatric subspecialty settings. Best fit for students who want hospital-based pediatrics rather than well-child primary care.
What you’ll experience
- Acute pediatric assessments across neonate, infant, child, and adolescent age groups
- PICU patient management — ventilated patients, vasoactive drips, sepsis bundles
- Pediatric ED workflow, triage, and rapid stabilization
- Pediatric subspecialty rotations (cardiology, pulmonology, GI, hem/onc, endocrinology)
- Weight-based pediatric pharmacotherapy and resuscitation dosing
- Family-centered communication during acute illness and difficult conversations
- Procedural skill development under supervision (LP, suturing, IV access, splinting)
- Multidisciplinary rounding with attendings, fellows, RTs, pharmacists, and social work
Pricing
PNP-AC rotations carry a small premium due to limited inpatient pediatric preceptor supply. Typical full rotation: $3,200–$5,500 depending on hours and state, with 12-month payment plans available.
Common PNP-AC questions
Over 110 active PNP-AC preceptors. This is one of our smaller networks because acute pediatric supply is genuinely constrained nationally — there are fewer children's hospitals than adult hospitals, and pediatric ICU/ED preceptors carry heavy clinical loads. We add new acute-pediatric preceptors every quarter, and our deepest coverage is in metros with freestanding children's hospitals like Atlanta, Houston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Boston. If your school requires a specific subspecialty, flag it early so your Student Coordinator can scope availability before you submit the formal request.
