How many AGACNP preceptors are in the NPHub network?

Over 180 active AGACNP preceptors, primarily in hospital systems across major metros. Hospital-based supply is naturally tighter than outpatient because each preceptor carries a heavier clinical and credentialing load — fewer NPs in any given hospital are available to take students at any given time. We grow the network steadily and our deepest coverage is in Houston, Atlanta, Dallas, Tampa, Charlotte, Philadelphia, and similar markets with large adult hospital systems. Smaller metros sometimes have community hospital options; your Student Coordinator will scope availability before you commit.

Where are AGACNP placements typically available?

Accepted Answer

Most AGACNP placements are concentrated in metros with major adult hospital systems — Houston, Atlanta, Dallas, Tampa, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and similar markets. We also have placements in mid-sized cities through regional health systems, but those slots fill faster and require more lead time. If you're geographically flexible, you'll match faster and likely get a higher-acuity setting; if you need a local-only placement in a smaller market, expect a longer match window or possibly a referral to one of our partner programs that have additional regional reach.

How far ahead should I request an AGACNP rotation?

Accepted Answer

At least 8 weeks before your target start date, and 12 weeks is better for ICU or specific subspecialty placements. Hospital-based acute care placements have longer match times than outpatient for two reasons: preceptor supply is tighter, and hospital credentialing (drug screen, background, immunization records, hospital-specific orientation modules, sometimes a fit test) typically adds 4–6 weeks beyond the match itself. Your Student Coordinator manages the paperwork, but earlier lead time means more choice and less risk of rotation delays.

Can I do an AGACNP rotation in a specific subspecialty?

Yes — we have preceptors in cardiology (CICU, cath lab consult), pulm/critical care, hospital medicine, hematology/oncology, and nephrology, with smaller availability in neurocritical care, trauma, and CT surgery. Subspecialty availability varies sharply by metro: Houston and Philadelphia have stronger CT surgery and transplant exposure; Tampa and Phoenix have good cardiology supply. Tell your Student Coordinator which subspecialty and acuity you're targeting (e.g., MICU vs. floor cardiology) so we can scope realistically before committing.

What's the typical cost of an AGACNP rotation?

Accepted Answer

Typical rotation: $3,000–$5,200 depending on hours and state. The premium over primary care reflects higher preceptor compensation in hospital-based acute care and the additional credentialing overhead per placement. A 200-hour acute care rotation in a standard-cost state usually lands around $3,000–$3,600; a 500-hour ICU or hospital medicine block in a high-cost market can reach $4,800–$5,200. Will I get hands-on procedural experience in an AGACNP rotation?

Accepted Answer

Typically yes, especially in ICU and step-down placements. Procedural exposure scales with acuity — ICU rotations often offer central lines, arterial lines, paracentesis, thoracentesis, intubation observation, and sometimes bedside ultrasound. Hospital medicine and floor rotations focus more on diagnostic workups and bedside assessments than procedures. Procedural autonomy is at your preceptor's discretion and bounded by your school's scope, but most NPHub AGACNP preceptors are comfortable letting competent students do supervised procedures by mid-rotation.

What if my school requires a specific hospital system or won't accept community hospitals?

Tell us early. Some schools have signed affiliation agreements only with specific hospital systems, or restrict acute care rotations to teaching hospitals. Send your clinical handbook and the affiliation list to your Student Coordinator during the discovery call. If we have preceptors at an approved system, great. If we don't, we'll be upfront about that and either expand our outreach or recommend an alternative path — we'd rather lose a sale than match you with a site your school won't credit.
